TED FELLOWSHIP + TALK
THE ART OF WINGING IT
In 2013, I was selected for the TED Fellowship program. Writing this talk, which is supposed to only be 4 minutes long, was a chore. I had too much I wanted to say, too much to tie together, and I wasn’t sure how to do it. The evening before, I decided to ignore my own script and just wing it, realizing then that this was the real through-thread in my work. Making use of one’s immediate resources to do what needs getting done. This is the skill and love that ties my professional work to my art. Taking this approach for the talk itself was such a freeing experience that I completely forgot about the clock — I happened to notice it the moment it struck four, which you may notice if you watch closely.
